1 بَعْدَ هَذَا، تَرَكَ بُولُسُ أَثِينَا وَرَاحَ إِلَى كُورِنْتُوسَ. 2 وَتَقَابَلَ هُنَاكَ مَعَ وَاحِدٍ يَهُودِيٍّ اسْمُهُ عَقِيلُ، وَهُوَ مِنْ بِلَادِ الْبُنْطِ. وَكَانَ قَدْ جَاءَ حَدِيثًا مِنْ إِيطَالِيَا هُوَ وَزَوْجَتُهُ بَرَكَةُ، لِأَنَّ الْقَيْصَرَ كُلُودِيُوسَ أَمَرَ كُلَّ الْيَهُودِ أَنْ يُغَادِرُوا رُومَا*. فَذَهَبَ بُولُسُ لِيَزُورَهُمَا. 3 ثُمَّ أَقَامَ عِنْدَهُمَا وَاشْتَغَلَ مَعَهُمَا، لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ نَفْسِ الْمِهْنَةِ مِثْلَهُمَا، أَيْ صَانِعَ خِيَامٍ. 4 وَكَانَ كُلَّ يَوْمِ سَبْتٍ يَتَنَاقَشُ مَعَ النَّاسِ فِي بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ وَيُحَاوِلُ أَنْ يُقْنِعَ الْيَهُودَ وَالْيُونَانِيِّينَ.
In Corinth
1 After that, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, who was from the country Pontus. He had recently come from Italy, he and his wife, Priscilla, because Claudius Caesar had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome.* So Paul went to visit them. 3 Then he stayed at their [place] and worked with them, since he was of the same profession as they were, namely, a tentmaker. 4 Each Saturday he reasoned with the people at the house of worship and tried to convince the Jews and the Greeks.
5 وَلَمَّا وَصَلَ سِيلَا وَتِيمُوثِي مِنْ شَمَالِ الْيُونَانِ، تَفَرَّغَ بُولُسُ تَمَامًا لِيُنَادِيَ بِالْبُشْرَى. فَكَانَ يَشْهَدُ لِلْيَهُودِ أَنَّ عِيسَى هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ. 6 لَكِنَّهُمْ عَارَضُوهُ وَأَخَذُوا يَشْتِمُونَهُ، فَنَفَضَ ثَوْبَهُ وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: ”إِنْ هَلَكْتُمْ فَأَنْتُمُ المَسْؤولُونَ! أَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِنْكُمْ. مِنَ الْآنَ سَأَذْهَبُ إِلَى غَيْرِ الْيَهُودِ.“ 7 فَانْتَقَلَ مِنْ هُنَاكَ وَنَزَلَ عِنْدَ وَاحِدٍ اسْمُهُ تِيتُوسُ الصِّدِّيقُ وَهُوَ غَيْرُ يَهُودِيٍّ وَيَعْبُدُ اللهَ وَدَارُهُ بِجِوَارِ بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ. 8 فَآمَنَ كِرِيسْبِي بِالْمَسِيحِ هُوَ وَكُلُّ عَائِلَتِهِ، وَهُوَ المَسْؤولُ عَنْ بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ. وَكَثِيرُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ كُورِنْتُوسَ الَّذِينَ سَمِعُوا بُولُسَ آمَنُوا وَتَغَطَّسُوا.
5 When Silas and Timothy arrived from northern Greece, Paul devoted himself completely to proclaiming the good news, bearing witness to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. 6 But they opposed him and began to insult him, so he shook out his garment and said to them, “If you perish, you are the ones responsible! I am innocent concerning you. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” 7 Then he moved from there and lodged with someone named Titius the Just. He was a Gentile who worshiped God, and his home was next to the house of worship. 8 Then Crispus believed in the Messiah, he and all of his family. He was responsible for the house of worship. Many of the people of Corinth who heard Paul came to faith and were immersed.
9 وَذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، تَحَدَّثَ سَيِّدُنَا عِيسَى إِلَى بُولُسَ فِي رُؤْيَا وَقَالَ: ”لَا تَخَفْ، تَكَلَّمْ وَلَا تَسْكُتْ. 10 أَنَا مَعَكَ وَلَنْ يَعْتَدِيَ أَحَدٌ عَلَيْكَ أَوْ يُؤْذِيَكَ، لِأَنَّ لِي شَعْبًا كَثِيرًا فِي هَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةِ.“ 11 فَأَقَامَ بُولُسُ هُنَاكَ سَنَةً وَ6 أَشْهُرٍ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ كَلِمَةَ اللهِ.
9 One night our Lord Jesus spoke to Paul in a vision and said, “Don't be afraid. Speak out and do not be silent. 10 I am with you, and no one will assault you or harm you, for I have many people in this city.” 11 So Paul stayed there for a year and six months, teaching them the word of God.
12 وَلَمَّا كَانَ غَالِيُونُ حَاكِمًا عَلَى جَنُوبِ الْيُونَانِ،* تَجَمَّعَ الْيَهُودُ كُلُّهُمْ وَهَجَمُوا عَلَى بُولُسَ، وَأَخَذُوهُ إِلَى الْمَحْكَمَةِ. 13 وَقَالُوا: ”هَذَا الرَّجُلُ يُؤَثِّرُ عَلَى النَّاسِ لِيَعْبُدُوا اللهَ بِطَرِيقَةٍ تُخَالِفُ عَقِيدَتَنَا.“ 14 وَلَمَّا كَانَ بُولُسُ عَلَى وَشْكِ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ، قَالَ غَالِيُونُ لِلْيَهُودِ: ”أَيُّهَا الْيَهُودُ، لَوْ كَانَتْ شَكْوَاكُمْ هِيَ عَنِ ارْتِكَابِ مُخَالَفَةٍ أَوْ جَرِيمَةٍ، لَكَانَ مِنَ الْمَعْقُولِ أَنْ أَسْمَعَ لَكُمْ. 15 لَكِنْ بِمَا أَنَّ الْمُشْكِلَةَ هِيَ عَنْ كَلَامٍ بِشَأْنِ أَسْمَاءٍ وَبِشَأْنِ عَقِيدَتِكُمْ، فَعَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُنْهُوا الْمَوْضُوعَ فِيمَا بَيْنَكُمْ، أَنَا لَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَكُونَ قَاضِيًا فِي هَذَا.“ 16 وَطَرَدَهُمْ مِنَ الْمَحْكَمَةِ. 17 فَتَجَمَّعُوا كُلُّهُمْ عَلَى سُوسِي، وَهُوَ المَسْؤولُ عَنْ بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ وَضَرَبُوهُ قُدَّامَ الْمَحْكَمَةِ. وَلَمْ يَهْتَمَّ غَالِيُونُ أَبَدًا.
12 However, when Gallio was governor of southern Greece,* all the Jews gathered and attacked Paul and took him to court. 13 They said, “This man influences people to worship God in a way that contradicts our doctrine.” 14 As Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, “You Jews, if your complaint were about a violation or a crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. 15 But since the problem is about a controversy regarding names and regarding your doctrine, it's up to you to resolve the issue among yourselves. I do not want to be a judge in this.” 16 And he drove them from the court. 17 Then they all joined together against Sosthenes, who was the one responsible for the house of worship, and beat him in front of the court, but Gallio didn't care at all.

18 وَعَلَى الرَّغْمِ مِنْ هَذَا، أَقَامَ بُولُسُ فَتْرَةً فِي كُورِنْتُوسَ، ثُمَّ وَدَّعَ الْإِخْوَةَ لِيُسَافِرَ بَحْرًا إِلَى سُورْيَا وَمَعَهُ بَرَكَةُ وَعَقِيلُ. وَفِي مِينَاءَ كَنْكِرْيَةَ حَلَقَ رَأْسَهُ لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ نَذْرٌ. 19 وَتَوَقَّفُوا فِي أَفَاسُسَ،* فَتَرَكَ بُولُسُ بَرَكَةَ وَعَقِيلَ هُنَاكَ. أَمَّا هُوَ فَذَهَبَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ وَتَنَاقَشَ مَعَ الْيَهُودِ. 20 فَطَلَبُوا مِنْهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ وَقْتًا أَطْوَلَ مَعَهُمْ، فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ. 21 لَكِنَّهُ قَالَ لَهُمْ وَهُوَ يُوَدِّعُهُمْ: ”سَأَرْجِعُ إِلَيْكُمْ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ.“ ثُمَّ تَابَعَ سَفَرَهُ بَحْرًا مِنْ أَفَاسُسَ.
Priscilla and Aquila
18 In spite of this, Paul stayed a while in Corinth. Then he said goodbye to the brothers [and sisters] to travel by sea to Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila. In the port of Cenchrea he shaved his head because of a vow he had [made]. 19 They made a stop at Ephesus,* and Paul left Priscilla and Aquila there [to stay]. As for him, he went to the house of worship and had discussions with the Jews. 20 They asked him to spend a longer time with them, but he didn't agree. 21 However, he said to them as he was telling them goodbye, “I will come back to you, God willing.” Then he continued his journey by sea from Ephesus.
22 وَنَزَلَ فِي قَيْصَرِيَّةَ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَى الْقُدْسِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ رَاحَ إِلَى أَنْطَاكِيَةَ. 23 وَبَعْدَمَا قَضَى بَعْضَ الْوَقْتِ فِي أَنْطَاكِيَةَ، خَرَجَ وَسَافَرَ فِي بِلَادِ مَنْطِقَةِ غَلَاطِيَةَ وَمَنْطِقَةِ فِرِيجِيَّةَ، وَكَانَ يُقَوِّي كُلَّ الْإِخْوَةِ.*
22 He landed at Caesarea, then he went to Jerusalem and greeted the believers, and after that he went to Antioch. 23 After spending some time in Antioch, he left and traveled through the region of Galatia and the region of Phrygia, strengthening all the brothers.*
أبلوس
24 وَكَانَ قَدْ جَاءَ إِلَى أَفَاسُسَ وَاحِدٌ يَهُودِيٌّ اسْمُهُ أَبُلُّوسُ مِنْ أَهَالِي الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ، وَهُوَ مُتَكَلِّمٌ فَصِيحٌ وَيَعْرِفُ كِتَابَ اللهِ. 25 وَقَدْ تَعَلَّمَ طَرِيقَ الْمَوْلَى، وَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِحَمَاسٍ عَظِيمٍ، وَيُعَلِّمُ بِدِقَّةٍ عَنْ عِيسَى، لَكِنَّهُ كَانَ يَعْرِفُ غِطَاسَ يَحْيَى فَقَطْ. 26 فَأَخَذَ يَتَكَلَّمُ فِي بَيْتِ الْعِبَادَةِ بِجَرَاءَةٍ. فَلَمَّا سَمِعَهُ عَقِيلُ وَبَرَكَةُ، أَخَذَاهُ إِلَى دَارِهِمَا وَشَرَحَا لَهُ طَرِيقَ اللهِ بِدِقَّةٍ أَكْثَرَ. 27 ثُمَّ قَرَّرَ أَبُلُّوسُ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ إِلَى جَنُوبِ الْيُونَانِ، فَشَجَّعَهُ الْإِخْوَةُ وَكَتَبُوا إِلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ هُنَاكَ لِكَيْ يُرَحِّبُوا بِهِ. فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ إِلَى هُنَاكَ، كَانَ بِفَضْلِ نِعْمَةِ اللهِ عَوْنًا كَبِيرًا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا. 28 لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي حِوَارِهِ مَعَ الْيَهُودِ يَهْزِمُهُمْ أَمَامَ الْجَمَاهِيرِ، وَيُبَيِّنُ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ أَنَّ عِيسَى هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ.
Apollos
24 Now there had come to Ephesus a certain Jew named Apollos, [who was] from the people of Alexandria. He was an eloquent speaker who knew the Book of God. 25 He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great enthusiasm, teaching accurately about Jesus. However, the only immersion he knew about was [the one] of John [the Baptist]. 26 He began speaking boldly in the house of worship. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him to their home and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 Then Apollos decided to go to southern Greece. So the brothers encouraged him [to do so], and they wrote to the believers there that they should welcome him. When he arrived there, he was — thanks to God's blessing — a great help to those who had believed, 28 because in his debates with the Jews, he continually defeated them in front of the crowds, showing them from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.

*18:2 Claudius Caesar, the emperor of the Roman Empire, expelled the Jews from Rome around AD 49. The next emperor, Nero Caesar, allowed them to return.
