1 وَتَقَرَّرَ أَنْ نُسَافِرَ فِي الْبَحْرِ إِلَى إِيطَالِيَا.* فَسَلَّمُوا بُولُسَ وَبَعْضَ الْمَسْجُونِينَ الْآخَرِينَ إِلَى ضَابِطٍ بِرُتْبَةِ قَائِدِ مِئَةٍ اسْمُهُ يُولِيُوسُ، يَنْتَمِي لِكَتِيبَةِ الْقَيْصَرِ. 2 وَرَكِبْنَا سَفِينَةً مِنْ أَدْرَامِيتَ مُتَّجِهَةً إِلَى بَعْضِ الْمَوَانِي عَلَى شَاطِئِ وِلَايَةِ آسْيَا وَأَبْحَرْنَا. وَكَانَ مَعَنَا رِسْتُرْكِي الَّذِي مِنْ تَسَالُونْكِي فِي شَمَالِ الْيُونَانِ.
To Rome
1 It was decided that we would travel by sea to Italy.* They handed over Paul and some other prisoners to an officer with the rank of captain of a hundred, whose name was Julius and who belonged to the Caesar Battalion. 2 We boarded a ship from Adramyttium [that was] headed for some ports along the coast of the province of Asia, and we sailed off. With us was Aristarchus, who was from Thessalonica in northern Greece.
3 وَفِي الْغَدِ وَصَلْنَا إِلَى صَيْدَا. وَكَانَ يُولِيُوسُ يُعَامِلُ بُولُسَ مُعَامَلَةً طَيِّبَةً، فَسَمَحَ لَهُ أَنْ يَزُورَ أَصْحَابَهُ فِي صَيْدَا لِيَنَالَ مِنْهُمْ مَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ. 4 وَمِنْ هُنَاكَ أَبْحَرْنَا مَرَّةً أُخْرَى. وَلِأَنَّ الرِّيحَ كَانَتْ ضِدَّنَا سَافَرْنَا بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ شَوَاطِئِ قُبْرُصَ. 5 ثُمَّ إِلَى الْبَحْرِ الَّذِي مُقَابِلَ كِيلِيكِيَّةَ وَبَمْفِيلِيَّةَ وَوَصَلْنَا إِلَى مِينَاءِ مِيرَا فِي وِلَايَةِ لِيكِيَّةَ. 6 فَوَجَدَ الضَّابِطُ هُنَاكَ سَفِينَةً مِنَ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ مُتَّجِهَةً إِلَى إِيطَالِيَا، فَأَرْكَبَنَا فِيهَا. 7 وَسَافَرْنَا بِبُطْءٍ عِدَّةَ أَيَّامٍ، وَبِالْجُهْدِ اقْتَرَبْنَا مِنْ شَاطِئِ كِنِيدُسَ. لَكِنَّ الرِّيحَ مَنَعَتْنَا مِنْ أَنْ نُرْسِيَ هُنَاكَ، فَسَافَرْنَا بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ شَوَاطِئِ جَزِيرَةِ كِرِيتَ مُقَابِلَ سَلْمُونَةَ. 8 وَبِصُعُوبَةٍ وَصَلْنَا إِلَى مَكَانٍ اسْمُهُ الْمَوَانِي الْحَسَنَةُ بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ لَسَائِيَةَ.
3 The next day we arrived at Sidon. Julius treated Paul with kindness and allowed him to visit his friends in Sidon to get from them what he needed. 4 From there we sailed again. Since the wind was against us, we sailed close to the coast of Cyprus, 5 then to the sea in front of Cilicia and Pamphylia, and then we arrived at the port of Myra in the province of Lycia. 6 There the officer found a ship from Alexandria [that was] headed for Italy, and he had us board it. 7 We traveled slowly for several days, and with effort we neared the coast of Cnidus. But the wind prevented us from anchoring there, so we traveled near the coast of the island of Crete, in front of Salmone. 8 And with difficulty we reached a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.
9 وَبِذَلِكَ ضَاعَ مِنَّا وَقْتٌ طَوِيلٌ، وَأَصْبَحَ السَّفَرُ فِي الْبَحْرِ خَطِرًا لِأَنَّ الْوَقْتَ كَانَ بَعْدَ الصِّيَامِ.* فَأَنْذَرَهُمْ بُولُسُ وَقَالَ: 10 ”أَيُّهَا الرِّجَالُ، إِنِّي أَرَى أَنَّ سَفَرَنَا فِيهِ خُطُورَةٌ وَخَسَارَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ، لَا عَلَى السَّفِينَةِ وَحُمُولَتِهَا فَقَطْ، بَلْ عَلَى أَرْوَاحِنَا أَيْضًا.“ 11 لَكِنَّ الضَّابِطَ مَالَ إِلَى كَلَامِ قَائِدِ السَّفِينَةِ وَكَلَامِ صَاحِبِهَا وَلَمْ يُعْطِ نَصِيحَةَ بُولُسَ أَهَمِّيَّةً. 12 وَكَانَ الْمِينَاءُ لَا يَصْلُحُ لِقَضَاءِ فَصْلِ الشِّتَاءِ هُنَاكَ، فَقَرَّرَتِ الْأَغْلَبِيَّةُ أَنْ نُكَمِّلَ السَّفَرَ، عَلَى أَمَلِ أَنْ نَصِلَ إِلَى مِينَاءِ فِينِكْسَ فِي كِرِيتَ وَنَقْضِيَ الشِّتَاءَ هُنَاكَ. وَهَذَا الْمِينَاءُ يُطِلُّ عَلَى الْجَنُوبِ الْغَرْبِيِّ وَالشَّمَالِ الْغَرْبِيِّ.
9 Because of [all] this, we had lost a lot of time, and sea travel had become dangerous, since it was after the Fast.* Paul warned them, saying, 10 “Men, I see that our journey will [lead to] great danger and loss, not only for the ship and its cargo, but for our lives as well.” 11 But the officer was inclined to [agree with] what was said by the ship's captain and its owner, and he did not give Paul's advice any weight. 12 The harbor was not fit for spending the winter there, so the majority decided that we should complete the journey in the hope that we could reach the port of Phoenix in Crete and spend the winter there. This port overlooks the southwest and the northwest.
العاصفة
13 وَهَبَّتْ رِيحٌ خَفِيفَةٌ مِنَ الْجَنُوبِ، فَظَنَّ الْبَحَّارَةُ أَنَّهُمْ نَالُوا مَا يُرِيدُونَ، فَرَفَعُوا الْمِرْسَاةَ وَأَبْحَرُوا بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ سَاحِلِ كِرِيتَ. 14 لَكِنْ بَعْدَ قَلِيلٍ هَبَّتْ رِيحٌ عَاصِفَةٌ اسْمُهَا الشَّمَالِيَّةُ الشَّرْقِيَّةُ، جَاءَتْ مِنَ الْجَزِيرَةِ. 15 فَانْدَفَعَتِ السَّفِينَةُ وَلَمْ يُمْكِنْهَا أَنْ تُقَاوِمَ الرِّيحَ. فَاسْتَسْلَمْنَا وَالرِّيحُ تَسُوقُنَا عَلَى غَيْرِ هُدًى. 16 وَمَرَرْنَا بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ جَزِيرَةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ اسْمُهَا كُودَا، وَأَمْكَنَنَا بِصُعُوبَةٍ أَنْ نُؤَمِّنَ قَارِبَ النَّجَاةِ. 17 فَرَفَعُوهُ إِلَى السَّفِينَةِ، ثُمَّ رَبَطُوا الْحِبَالَ حَوْلَ السَّفِينَةِ لِتَأْمِينِهَا. وَخَافُوا أَنْ نَصْطَدِمَ بِالسَّاحِلِ الرَّمْلِيِّ عِنْدَ خَلِيجِ السِّرْتِ، فَأَنْزَلُوا الشِّرَاعَ وَتَرَكُوا السَّفِينَةَ تَنْسَاقُ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْحَالِ. 18 وَاشْتَدَّتْ عَلَيْنَا الْعَاصِفَةُ جِدًّا، حَتَّى إِنَّهُ فِي الْيَوْمِ التَّالِي أَخَذَ الْبَحَّارَةُ يَرْمُونَ حُمُولَةَ السَّفِينَةِ إِلَى الْبَحْرِ. 19 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ رَمَوْا أَدَوَاتِ السَّفِينَةِ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ. 20 وَمَرَّتْ أَيَّامٌ كَثِيرَةٌ لَمْ تَظْهَرْ فِيهَا الشَّمْسُ وَلَا النُّجُومُ، وَاسْتَمَرَّتِ الْعَاصِفَةُ تَهُبُّ بِعُنْفٍ، حَتَّى إِنَّنَا أَخِيرًا قَطَعْنَا كُلَّ أَمَلٍ فِي النَّجَاةِ.
The Storm
13 A light wind began blowing from the south, so the sailors thought they had gotten what they wanted. So they raised the anchor and sailed close to the coastland of Crete. 14 But after a while, a windstorm called a northeaster blew in from the island. 15 The ship was pushed away and could not oppose the wind. So we gave in, and the wind drove us along aimlessly. 16 We passed near a small island named Cauda, and with difficulty we were able to secure the lifeboat. 17 They lifted it up to the ship. Then they tied ropes around the ship to make it secure. They were afraid we would crash into the sandbank in the Gulf of Sirte, so they lowered the sail and let the ship be driven along in this way. 18 The storm was so violent against us that on the following day the sailors began throwing the ship's cargo into the sea. 19 On the third day they threw the ship's gear [overboard] with their own hands. 20 Many days passed in which we saw neither the sun nor the stars. The storm continued to blow with [such] violence that in the end we gave up all hope of rescue.
21 وَكَانَ الْمُسَافِرُونَ قَدِ امْتَنَعُوا عَنْ تَنَاوُلِ الطَّعَامِ مُدَّةً طَوِيلَةً، فَوَقَفَ بُولُسُ بَيْنَهُمْ وَقَالَ: ”أَيُّهَا الرِّجَالُ، كَانَ يَجِبُ أَنْ تَعْمَلُوا بِنَصِيحَتِي وَلَا تَتْرُكُوا كِرِيتَ، فَتَسْلَمُوا مِنْ هَذَا الْخَطَرِ وَالْخَسَارَةِ. 22 وَلَكِنِّي الْآنَ أَطْلُبُ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ تَطْمَئِنُّوا، فَلَنْ يُفْقَدَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ، إِلَّا أَنَّ السَّفِينَةَ وَحْدَهَا سَتَتَحَطَّمُ. 23 فَاللَّيْلَةَ الْمَاضِيَةَ جَاءَنِي مَلَاكٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ الَّذِي أَنْتَمِي لَهُ وَأَعْبُدُهُ 24 وَقَالَ لِي: ’لَا تَخَفْ يَا بُولُسُ، فَلَا بُدَّ أَنَّكَ تَقِفُ أَمَامَ قَيْصَرَ. وَقَدْ وَهَبَكَ اللهُ حَيَاةَ جَمِيعِ الْمُسَافِرِينَ مَعَكَ.‘ 25 فَاطْمَئِنُّوا أَيُّهَا الرِّجَالُ، أَنَا عِنْدِي إِيمَانٌ بِاللهِ أَنَّ كَلَامَهُ سَيَتِمُّ. 26 فَلَا بُدَّ أَنْ تَدْفَعَنَا الرِّيحُ إِلَى إِحْدَى الْجُزُرِ.“
21 The travelers had abstained from eating food for a long time. So Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have complied with my advice and not left Crete. Then you would have been safe from this danger and loss. 22 But now I ask you to rest assured, for none of you will be lost; the ship alone will be wrecked. 23 For last night an angel came to me from God, to whom I belong and whom I worship, 24 and he said to me, ‘Don't be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand before Caesar. And God has granted you the lives of all the travelers with you.’ 25 So rest assured, men. For I have faith in God, that what he said will come true. 26 But for sure the wind will thrust us onto one of the islands.”
تحطم السفينة
27 وَفِي اللَّيْلَةِ الرَّابِعَةَ عَشْرَةَ، وَكَانَتِ الرِّيَاحُ مَا زَالَتْ تَسُوقُنَا فِي بَحْرِ أَدْرِيَا، ظَنَّ الْبَحَّارَةُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَصَفِ اللَّيْلِ أَنَّهُمْ يَقْتَرِبُونَ مِنَ الْبَرِّ. 28 فَقَاسُوا عُمْقَ الْمَاءِ وَوَجَدُوهُ 40 مِتْرًا، وَبَعْدَ فَتْرَةٍ قَصِيرَةٍ قَاسُوا مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَوَجَدُوهُ 30 مِتْرًا. 29 فَخَافُوا أَنْ نَصْطَدِمَ بِالصُّخُورِ، فَرَمَوْا مِنْ مُؤَخِّرَةِ السَّفِينَةِ 4 مَرَاسٍ وَهُمْ يَرْجُونَ أَنْ يَطْلَعَ الصُّبْحُ. 30 وَأَرَادَ الْبَحَّارَةُ أَنْ يَهْرُبُوا مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ، فَأَنْزَلُوا قَارِبَ النَّجَاةِ إِلَى الْبَحْرِ عَلَى زَعْمِ أَنَّهُمْ يُرِيدُونَ إِنْزَالَ بَعْضِ الْمَرَاسِي مِنَ الْمُقَدِّمَةِ.
The Shipwreck
27 On the fourteenth night, while the wind was still driving us along in the Adriatic Sea, the sailors suspected in the middle of the night that they were approaching land. 28 They measured the depth of the water and found it [to be] forty meters. After a short while, they measured again and found it [to be] thirty meters. 29 They were afraid we would crash against the rocks, so they threw out four anchors from the stern of the ship, wishing that morning would come. 30 The sailors wanted to flee from the ship, so they lowered the lifeboat to the sea on the pretense that they wanted to lower some of the anchors from the bow. 31 But Paul said to the officer and the soldiers, “If these men don't stay in the ship, it won't be possible for you to survive.” 32 So the soldiers cut the ropes to the lifeboat and let it fall into the water.
31 فَقَالَ بُولُسُ لِلضَّابِطِ وَالْجُنُودِ: ”إِنْ لَمْ يَبْقَ هَؤُلَاءِ فِي السَّفِينَةِ فَلَنْ يُمْكِنَكُمْ أَنْ تَنْجُوا.“ 32 فَقَطَعَ الْجُنُودُ حِبَالَ الْقَارِبِ وَتَرَكُوهُ يَسْقُطُ فِي الْمَاءِ. 33 وَقَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ، طَلَبَ بُولُسُ مِنْهُمْ كُلِّهِمْ أَنْ يَأْكُلُوا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ: ”هَذَا هُوَ الْيَوْمُ الرَّابِعَ عَشَرَ وَأَنْتُمْ فِي قَلَقٍ وَبِلَا شَهِيَّةٍ، فَلَمْ تَأْكُلُوا شَيْئًا. 34 أَرْجُوكُمْ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا بَعْضَ الطَّعَامِ، أَنْتُمْ تَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَى هَذَا لِنَجَاتِكُمْ. وَلَنْ يَفْقِدَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْكُمْ شَعْرَةً مِنْ رَأْسِهِ“ 35 وَلَمَّا قَالَ هَذَا، أَخَذَ خُبْزًا وَشَكَرَ اللهَ قُدَّامَهُمْ جَمِيعًا، ثُمَّ كَسَرَ وَبَدَأَ يَأْكُلُ. 36 فَاطْمَأَنُّوا كُلُّهُمْ، وَتَنَاوَلُوا بَعْضَ الطَّعَامِ. 37 وَكَانَ عَدَدُنَا فِي السَّفِينَةِ 276 شَخْصًا. 38 وَبَعْدَمَا شَبِعُوا، رَمَوْا الْقَمْحَ فِي الْبَحْرِ لِكَيْ يُخَفِّفُوا عَنِ السَّفِينَةِ.
33 Before dawn, Paul urged them all to eat, saying to them, “This is the fourteenth day you've been worried, with no appetite, and you haven't eaten a thing. 34 I wish you would eat some food; you'll need this for your survival. And not one of you will lose a hair from his head.” 35 Having said that, he took some bread, gave thanks to God before them all, broke it, and began to eat. 36 Then all of them felt reassured and ate some food. 37 The number of us on the ship was 276. 38 After eating their fill, they threw the wheat into the sea to lighten the ship.
39 وَلَمَّا طَلَعَ النَّهَارُ، لَمْ يَقْدِرِ الْبَحَّارَةُ أَنْ يُمَيِّزُوا الْبَرَّ. لَكِنَّهُمْ رَأَوْا خَلِيجًا لَهُ شَاطِئٌ رَمْلِيٌّ. فَقَرَّرُوا أَنْ يَدْفَعُوا السَّفِينَةَ إِلَيْهِ إِنْ أَمْكَنَ. 40 فَقَطَعُوا الْمَرَاسِيَ وَتَرَكُوهَا فِي الْبَحْرِ. وَفِي نَفْسِ الْوَقْتِ حَلُّوا الْحِبَالَ الَّتِي تَرْبِطُ الدَّفَّةَ، وَرَفَعُوا الشِّرَاعَ الْأَمَامِيَّ لِلرِّيحِ وَاتَّجَهُوا نَحْوَ الشَّاطِئِ. 41 لَكِنَّ السَّفِينَةَ انْدَفَعَتْ إِلَى تَلٍّ رَمْلِيٍّ وَاصْطَدَمَتْ بِهِ. فَانْغَرَزَ الْمُقَدَّمُ وَبَقِيَ لَا يَتَحَرَّكُ، وَأَخَذَتِ الْمُؤَخِّرَةُ تَتَحَطَّمُ مِنْ عُنْفِ الْأَمْوَاجِ.
39 When daylight came, the sailors weren't able to recognize the land, but they saw a bay that had a beach, so they decided to drive the ship to it if possible. 40 So they cut the anchors loose and left them in the sea. At the same time, they released the ropes which had tied the rudder, raised the foresail to the wind, and headed towards the shore. 41 The ship was driven to a sandbar and crashed into it. The bow got stuck and wouldn't move, and the stern started to break apart from the violence of the waves.
42 فَأَرَادَ الْجُنُودُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُوا الْمَسَاجِينَ لِئَلَّا يَسْبَحُوا إِلَى الشَّاطِئِ وَيَهْرُبُوا. 43 لَكِنَّ الضَّابِطَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُنْقِذَ بُولُسَ، فَمَنَعَهُمْ مِنْ تَنْفِيذِ قَصْدِهِمْ. فَأَمَرَ الْقَادِرِينَ عَلَى السِّبَاحَةِ أَنْ يَقْفِزُوا أَوَّلًا وَيَخْرُجُوا إِلَى الشَّاطِئِ. 44 ثُمَّ يَتْبَعَهُمُ الْبَاقُونَ عَلَى أَلْوَاحٍ مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ أَوْ عَلَى حُطَامِهَا. وَبِهَذَا وَصَلَ الْجَمِيعُ إِلَى الْبَرِّ سَالِمِينَ.
42 The soldiers wanted to kill the prisoners so that they wouldn't swim to the shore and escape. 43 But the officer wanted to save Paul, so he stopped them from carrying out their intention. Then he ordered those who could swim to jump [overboard] first and set off for the shore, 44 and the rest to follow them on planks from the ship or on its debris. In this way, everyone reached land safely.
