John 17
عيسى يتشفع في تلاميذه
1 وَبَعْدَ هَذَا الْكَلَامِ، نَظَرَ عِيسَى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَقَالَ: ”يَا أَبِي، حَانَ الْوَقْتُ، مَجِّدِ ابْنَكَ لِكَيْ يُمَجِّدَكَ ابْنُكَ، 2 لِأَنَّكَ أَعْطَيْتَهُ السُّلْطَةَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ الْبَشَرِ، لِكَيْ يَمْنَحَ حَيَاةَ الْخُلُودِ لِكُلِّ الَّذِينَ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ لَهُ. 3 وَحَيَاةُ الْخُلُودِ هِيَ أَنْ يَعْرِفُوكَ أَنْتَ الْإِلَهَ الْحَقَّ وَحْدَكَ، وَيَعْرِفُوا عِيسَى الْمَسِيحَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَهُ. 4 أَنَا مَجَّدْتُكَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ، بِأَنِّي أَنْجَزْتُ الْعَمَلَ الَّذِي كَلَّفْتَنِي بِهِ. 5 وَالْآنَ مَجِّدْنِي إِلَى جِوَارِكَ يَا أَبِي بِالْمَجْدِ الَّذِي كَانَ لِي عِنْدَكَ قَبْلَ خَلْقِ الْعَالَمِينَ.
Jesus Intercedes for His Disciples
1 After saying this, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come; glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you have given him authority over all humankind, so that he may grant eternal life to all those whom you have given to him. 3 Eternal life is that they know you, the only true God, and that they know Jesus the Messiah, whom you have sent. 4 I have glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you assigned me to do. 5 And now, glorify me at your side, my Father, with the glory that I had with you before the creation of the universe.
6 ”أَنَا أَظْهَرْتُ اسْمَكَ لِلَّذِينَ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ لِي مِنْ بَيْنِ أَهْلِ الْعَالَمِ. كَانُوا لَكَ فَأَعْطَيْتَهُمْ لِي. وَهُمْ عَمِلُوا بِكَلَامِكَ، 7 وَعَرَفُوا الْآنَ أَنَّ كُلَّ مَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ لِي هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ. 8 فَأَنَا بَلَّغْتُهُمُ الرِّسَالَةَ الَّتِي أَعْطَيْتَهَا لِي. وَهُمْ قَبِلُوهَا وَعَرَفُوا حَقًّا أَنِّي جِئْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ، وَآمَنُوا أَنَّكَ أَرْسَلْتَنِي.
6 “I have revealed your name to those you have given me from among the people of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have done what you told them. 7 They now know that everything you have given me is [truly] from you, 8 I conveyed to them the message that you gave me. They accepted it and have truly come to know that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.
9 ”أَنَا أَدْعُو لَهُمْ. فَلَا أَدْعُو لِأَهْلِ الْعَالَمِ، بَلْ لِلَّذِينَ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ لِي لِأَنَّهُمْ لَكَ. 10 وَكُلُّ الَّذِينَ لِي هُمْ لَكَ، وَالَّذِينَ لَكَ هُمْ لِي. وَأَنَا أَتَمَجَّدُ بِوَاسِطَتِهِمْ. 11 هُمْ بَاقُونَ فِي هَذَا الْعَالَمِ، أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَنْ أَبْقَى فِي هَذَا الْعَالَمِ لِأَنِّي رَاجِعٌ إِلَيْكَ. أَيُّهَا الْأَبُ الْقُدُّوسُ، اِحْفَظْهُمْ بِقُوَّةِ اسْمِكَ* الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتَهُ لِي، لِكَيْ يَكُونُوا وَاحِدًا، كَمَا أَنَّنَا أَنْتَ وَأَنَا وَاحِدٌ.
9 “I'm praying for them. I'm not praying for the people of the world, but for those you have given me, because they [belong] to you. 10 Everyone who [belongs] to me [belongs] to you, and [everyone] who [belongs] to you [belongs] to me, and I'm glorified through them. 11 They're staying in this world, but as for me, I won't stay in this world, because I'm returning to you. Holy Father, keep them [safe] by the power of your name,* which you've given me, so that they may be one, just as you and I are one.
12 ”لَمَّا كُنْتُ مَعَهُمْ، حَافَظْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَحَرَسْتُهُمْ بِقُوَّةِ اسْمِكَ الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتَهُ لِي، وَلَمْ يُفْقَدْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا الَّذِي اخْتَارَ لِنَفْسِهِ الْهَلَاكَ لِيَتِمَّ مَا وَرَدَ فِي الْكِتَابِ. 13 وَالْآنَ أَنَا رَاجِعٌ إِلَيْكَ، وَإِنَّمَا أَقُولُ هَذِهِ الْأَشْيَاءَ وَأَنَا مَا زِلْتُ فِي الْعَالَمِ، لِيَفْرَحُوا مِثْلِي فَرَحًا كَامِلًا.
12 “While I've been with them, I've kept them [safe] and protected them by the power of your name, which you've given me. None of them were lost except the one who chose destruction for himself, to fulfill what is stated in the Scriptures. 13 Now I'm returning to you, but I'm saying these things while I'm still in the world, so that they may rejoice like me with pure joy.
14 ”أَنَا بَلَّغْتُهُمْ كَلِمَتَكَ، فَكَرِهَهُمْ أَهْلُ الْعَالَمِ لِأَنَّهُمْ لَيْسُوا مِنَ الْعَالَمِ، كَمَا أَنِّي أَنَا لَسْتُ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ. 15 أَنَا لَا أَطْلُبُ مِنْكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَهُمْ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ، بَلْ أَنْ تَحْفَظَهُمْ مِنَ الشِّرِّيرِ. 16 هُمْ لَيْسُوا مِنَ الْعَالَمِ، كَمَا أَنِّي أَنَا لَسْتُ مِنَ الْعَالَمِ.
14 “I have conveyed to them your word. The people of the world have hated them, because they don't belong to the world, just as I don't belong to the world. 15 I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but rather that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They don't belong to the world, just as I myself don't belong to the world.
ويتشفع في كل المؤمنين به
20 ”وَأَنَا لَا أَدْعُو لِهَؤُلَاءِ فَقَطْ، بَلْ أَيْضًا لِمَنْ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِي بِوَاسِطَةِ كَلَامِهِمْ. 21 لِكَيْ يَكُونُوا كُلُّهُمْ وَاحِدًا، أَيُّهَا الْأَبُ، كَمَا أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ فِيَّ وَأَنَا فِيكَ. فَلْيَكُونُوا هُمْ أَيْضًا فِينَا، بِذَلِكَ يُؤْمِنُ الْعَالَمُ أَنَّكَ أَرْسَلْتَنِي. 22 أَنَا أَكْرَمْتُهُمْ بِنَفْسِ إِكْرَامِكَ لِي، لِكَيْ يَكُونُوا وَاحِدًا، كَمَا أَنَّنَا أَنْتَ وَأَنَا وَاحِدٌ. 23 أَنَا فِيهِمْ وَأَنْتَ فِيَّ لِتَكُونَ وَحْدَتُهُمْ كَامِلَةً، فَيَعْرِفَ الْعَالَمُ أَنَّكَ أَرْسَلْتَنِي وَأَنَّكَ تُحِبُّهُمْ كَمَا تُحِبُّنِي.
He Intercedes for All Believers in Him
20 “I'm not praying for these only, but also for everyone who believes in me through what they say, 21 that they all would be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you, and so they would be in us as well. That way the world will believe that you sent me. 22 I have honored them with the same honor you [gave] me, so that they might be one, just as you and I are one, 23 [with] me in them and you in me, so that their unity may be complete, so the world will know that you sent me and that you love them just as you love me.
24 ”أَيُّهَا الْأَبُ، هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ لِي أُرِيدُ أَنْ يَكُونُوا مَعِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي أَكُونُ فِيهِ، فَيَرَوْا جَلَالِي الَّذِي أَعْطَيْتَهُ لِي، لِأَنَّكَ أَحْبَبْتَنِي مِنْ قَبْلِ خَلْقِ الْعَالَمِينَ. 25 أَيُّهَا الْأَبُ الصَّالِحُ، أَهْلُ الْعَالَمِ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوكَ، أَمَّا أَنَا فَعَرَفْتُكَ. وَهَؤُلَاءِ عَرَفُوا أَنَّكَ أَرْسَلْتَنِي. 26 أَنَا عَرَّفْتُهُمْ بِشَخْصِكَ، وَسَأُعَرِّفُهُمْ بِهِ، لِكَيْ تَكُونَ فِيهِمِ الْمَحَبَّةُ الَّتِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي بِهَا، وَأَكُونَ أَنَا فِيهِمْ.“
24 “Father, [regarding] those whom you have given me, I want them to be with me in the place where I'll be, so they can see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the universe. 25 Good Father, the people of the world do not know you, but I know you, and these [people] know that you sent me. 26 I have made known to them who you are, and I will [continue to] make this known to them, so that the love with which you have loved me will be in them, and I myself will be in them.”
*17:17 holy: chosen by God and set apart by him to live a godly life both now and in eternity. In this case, God has already chosen the disciples for his eternal Kingdom (Paradise) by giving them faith in Jesus the Messiah, but Jesus is asking God to help them grow in their love for God and for one another and in their knowledge of the truth.
